The Public Library Renovated for the Benefit of the Community

With the firm commitment to continue supporting education in our community through the renovation of public spaces, the reopening of the Professor Josefina Castillo Márquez Public Library in La Ribera was celebrated on Thursday, September 5. This project is the result of collaboration between Fundación Costa Palmas, civil society, and government authorities.

Among the completed work, highlights include the renovation of the flooring, the complete overhaul of the electrical installations, the update of the windows and carpentry, as well as plumbing and metalwork. These efforts ensure that the facilities are functional and safe for all users. Additionally, improvements were made to the shelving and to areas with optimal lighting for reading and extended activities. Ten new computers equipped with Microsoft Office were also provided.

The event was attended by notable figures, including Mr. Miguel Mijares González, Municipal Delegate of La Ribera; Angélica Ojeda Sandez, President of DIF La Ribera; Ms. Cinthya Bringas Pérez, Municipal Library Coordinator; Ms. Mónica Macklis Lucero, Manager of the La Ribera Public Library; Mr. Gabriel Escaba, Director of Development and Construction; Ms. Karla Flores Espino, Director of Fundación Costa Palmas; Mr. Fernando Hurtado, Project Leader at Fundación Costa Palmas; and Professor Ana Gerardo, along with students from Telesecundaria No. 1 José Agustín Olachea Avilés.

“I thank Fundación Costa Palmas for their commitment over the years. The library is a crucial meeting point. I encourage everyone to set aside one day a week to disconnect from their mobile devices and visit the library”, expressed Mr. Miguel Mijares, and continued: “Reading a book not only enhances comprehension and learning but also fosters a healthy habit that will benefit them throughout their lives.”

Every corner of the library has been renovated to offer a modern, welcoming, and comfortable environment, transforming it into a versatile space for workshops, classes, and cultural activities for children, adults, and the entire community.

“The library is a symbol of collaborative effort. Together, we have created a space that inspires current and future generations, strengthening our La Ribera community,” emphasized Ms. Karla Flores Espino, Director of Fundación Costa Palmas.

At Fundación Costa Palmas, we reaffirm our commitment to caring for the community that supports us. This project is a testament to our mission and our intention to continue collaborating for the well-being of East Cabo.
