Successful Vaccination Drive for 100 Pets

Healthy and well-cared-for pets contribute to a safer community and a more balanced environment!

This past Saturday marked another successful pet vaccination and checkup campaign organized by Fundación Costa Palmas, in collaboration with local veterinarian Cristobal Cosio and the Municipality, which took place in the El Campamento community at the 15 de Mayo Primary School in the Santiago delegation.

This campaign continues our previous efforts in sterilization carried out earlier this year and in 2023, prioritizing the well-being of pets and the environmental care of the community. A total of 100 pets, including both dogs and cats, were examined by a veterinarian and received appropriate treatment. Cristobal Cosio, owner of the Clínica Veterinaria Buenos Aires in Los Barriles, has been integral to this initiative from the start. Their team generously donated their time and services to provide care for local families' pets.

The event started at 9 a.m. with the arrival of the pre-registered individuals. Each pet received their vaccination booklet, promoting the administration of future vaccines and ongoing health monitoring. The primary focus of this event was to conduct health check-ups for local pets and administer essential vaccinations, which included:

  • Adult Dogs: Distemper, Adenovirus Types 1 and 2, Parvovirus, Leptospirosis, and Rabies
  • Puppies: Parvovirus, Distemper, and Coronavirus
  • Cats: Triple Vaccine and Rabies
  • Dewormers for Cats
  • Tick Pills

Local authorities also participated in this event, including Lic. Melissa Castillo Montaño (Municipal Coordinator of Animal Protection), Jesús Abraham Acevedo Avilés (Coordinator of Ecology and Environment, Santiago Delegation), and Leonor Ojeda García (Coordinator of the Institute of Women, Santiago Delegation).

Our goal is to educate pet owners about optimal care and the importance of regular veterinary visits to ensure their animals' health. Vaccination and proper care of our pets are crucial for protecting the environment. Vaccines prevent diseases that can be transmitted between animals and humans, thus reducing public health risks.

Additionally, regular pet care, including sterilization and veterinary visits, helps control the population of stray animals and minimizes their environmental impact. We look forward to continuing these vaccination and sterilization initiatives for the benefit of the local community of Ribera and its surrounding areas. A big thank you to all the pet owners who joined us! We look forward to seeing you at our next event!
